The Summer of SAADI is upon us New York. This past weekend, SAADI frontwoman Boshra AlSaadi sang with the Bubu King himself, True Panther's Janka Nabay at PS1's first Warm Up series for 2010, alongside Delorean, Glasser, John Talabot and Korallreven.
Check out these amazing photographs from Pitchfork, Stereogum, and Color and Light with Boshra sporting a hot patterned Mociun jumpsuit via The Shiny Squirrel. More NYC dates to come with Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang including Zebulon twice this month! Check the side bar for show dates!
If that isn't enough to make your mouth water, next Wednesday (July 14), SAADI will take the stage at Pianos to support Stockholm's Jenny Wilson on one of only two New York City dates!

The 2nd annual Hillstock Festival was held this past weekend and this year Paper Garden was lucky enough to have two of the three days in its very own backyard in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn!
Hillstock Festival is an idea materialized by members of the Brooklyn-based 30-ish member band, Eskalators (who just so happen to be our next door neighbors) and Paper Garden had the chance to showcase three of its acts in a cosy backyard full of great people, food, art, and an array of musical talent. Peasant, The Wooden Sky, and SAADI all played on the Sunday bill, dodging the rain showers by minutes thanks to a massive pre-prepared tarp over people's heads allowing the show to go on as planned and the bands receiving their due credit for some incredible performances.
Outside of the immediate Paper Garden realm, there were a slew of other bands we couldn't help but take a liking to, including Hop Along, Young and Old, Saredren Wells, Eskalators, ACLU Benefit, Mercy Choir, Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt, The Toothaches, Ava Luna and many more! As all three days were documented and filmed by Flipswitch, there will be more video clips to come soon on the Festival and no doubt a DVD release for you in the coming months!
In the meantime, you can check out the video from The Local/New York Times here:

Since their introduction stateside, Copenhagen based Alcoholic Faith Mission has been the object of praise from the likes of NME, AOL UK, RCRD LBL, SPIN Earth, Chart Attack, Largehearted Boy Drowned In Sound. To coincide with the album's U.S. release on Paper Garden Records on April 27, Alcoholic Faith Mission will be heading out on a tour of the northeastern U.S in April and May.
Let This Be The Last Night We Care, the band’s third album, seems destined to become one of the summer’s ubiquitous favorites. It is equal parts melancholy and celebratory, electronic and organic – propelled along by shout-sung choruses, stacked harmonies, walls of electric guitar, analog clicks and crashes. The album’s hallmarks are its seemingly infinite textures, and beautiful melodies sung with a sense of urgency to often despondent lyrics.

Did someone say Art Party!? In conjunction with Williamsburg’s 3rd Ward, Paper Garden Records will shine a new light (literally) on our everyday perception of music and art on November 7th, 2009 with Multiverse Playground. Challenging and exploring the relationship between the senses, Multiverse Playground’s grandiose light installation will illuminate and embody the atmosphere and sound of Paper Garden's blossoming artists - Emanuel and the Fear, Peasant, and Darla Farmer.
An idea spawned by conceptual art visionary Larry Mayorga, the light display for the event will be dependent on the music and exclusively designed for the bands. The production is one that will result in a hypnotic and seductive performance that heightens the viewer’s awareness of the space, lighting and their relationship with the constructed environment and the music. This will become a responsive art/light installation that will trigger an intimate and emotional connection between the music and the viewer, an experience only fully appreciated in physical presence!
Accompanying the luminous vision of Mayorga, Paper Garden Records will also be showcasing an artist-based photography exhibition by Heidi Greenwood and a must-see live conceptual art performance by New York art collective, Art Battles. A comedy act will also play host to the event and perform between band sets and a special guest headliner (to be announced) will finish off the night with a bang!
In addition, Paper Garden Records has recently been invited by Lomography to be the newest member of their elite Lomo Amigos group, alongside Elijah Wood, Beirut, David Arquette, Bruce Lee and more!
Free download samplers will be given out as well, so get there early while supplies last!

With 3 artists (Alcoholic Faith Mission, SAADI, and Philadelphia Slick) at the forefront of Paper Garden's newly launched publicity department, we are excited to finally branch out and offer our publicity experience to those in need. This has given Paper Garden more flexibility to work with artists we love and really believe in.
Having worked with many great artists in the past (Tokyo Police Club, DeVotchka, Cursive, N.A.S.A., Beach House, Jukebox the Ghost, Living Things, White Rabbits, The Sounds, Shad, and MANY more), Paper Graden has the connections and resources needed in order to develop and implement some very fun and creative ideas that have proven successful in their campaigns.
"Working with Paper Garden is not a record deal. It is a fucking destiny. We've only been with them a short while but everything has started moving very fast around us. 421 Wythe Avenue, the album, belongs to Brooklyn. Us, Alcoholic Faith Mission, was conceived somewhere very near 104 Emerson St where Paper Garden lives. If you knew the whole story you'd know that this feels less like a record deal and more like a
destiny." - ALCOHOLIC FAITH MISSION
"Paper Garden's PR dept is super savvy in their approach. I've only worked with them for one month, and already the press and interest surrounding my music has completely skyrocketed. Bryan Vaughan is a seasoned inter-naught who knows when/where/how to promote and artist in today's super competitive and cluttered market. Big time recommendation." - SAADI
As we enter a new decade and many of us are trying to live up to our potential quietly, PEASANT is taking his personal resolution to the ears of every listener. Having been in a continual state of growth for the past two years, Peasant has flourished to create a new album – an album that illustrates maturity gained through experience without losing the honest charm of deliverance.
Shady Retreat, Peasant’s new record, takes off where the previous record, On The Ground, left us. While the last album gave many people their first taste of Peasant, in the eyes of the moniker’s human form, Damien DeRose, this was a mere appetizer to what would soon come to fruition. DeRose molded his own retrospective thoughts and realization about the music and content of On The Ground to use as a platform for Shady Retreat. The result is an album that is an extension of the most creative and substantial elements of On The Ground combined with DeRose’s maturing music tastes and everyday influences. Shady Retreat stands out as its own introspective artistic masterpiece.
Keep an eye out for new Peasant tour updates to be announced soon as he will be venturing down to Austin for SXSW in March, followed by a nationwide tour in April and then heading over the Atlantic in May to tour in support of the release abroad!
Shady Retreat is available via Paper Garden Records on March 2, 2010 in North America and April 5th in Europe.

Often times, a band can get too big too quickly and not be able to adapt in ample time to their own success. In Emanuel and the Fear’s case, they started big - an entire 11 members big. With less than a year under their belt since the initial self-titled EP release, Emanuel and the Fear has been building its profile and reputation rapidlly, proving to the industry and fans alike that it is one band that is worth the hype.
Now armed with a brand new 18-song album of epic proportions, Emanuel and the Fear is raising the bar yet again with Listen. To be released in North America on March 9th and in Europe on March 22nd with Spring and Summer tour plans both domestic and abroad, not to mention playing two of NYC’s best venues (Music Hall of Williamsburg and Gramercy Theatre) in February and March, Emanuel and the Fear will be bringing their music and full live experience to listeners across the globe.

According to Chinese Zodiac, the tiger is one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet, and is feared and revered in equal measure. It is featured in many Asian cultures as a manifestation of courage, power, passion and royalty. In Imperial China, where the dragon is the insignia of the emperors, the tiger is the military emblem of the highest supreme commanders of the army symbolizing fearlessness and victory.
As fate would have it this year, the year of the Tiger, Paper Garden Records’ own Mighty Tiger releases its debut album, Western Theater. With a limited edition 7” vinyl featuring “33 1/3” and a B-side remix of the song from Big Spider’s Back, the album will be available digitally alongside the vinyl that includes the full album download on March 9th, 2010.
