We first had the pleasure of championing this act a few years ago around his video parody of Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air where Shad plays the part of Will Smith.  Since then, Shad’s career has picked up quickly, now with a new record TSOL out on Black Box Music in Canada and Decon Records in the US.

Having just finished up a North American tour with K-OS, and heading off to Europe in a few weeks (see dates on your left), Shad’s style of hip-hop is far from traditional.  Incorporating elements of humor, irony, intellect, and instrumental brilliance into both his live show and recordings, Shad’s splash has already hit home with the likes of Pitchfork, URB, and OkayPlayer to name a few, but we still like to think of ourselves as the true discoverers of this Canadian hip-hop anomaly ;)

A big shout out to Shad’s bandmate, DJ T-LO who has a slew of awards for his scratching abilities across the globe and to his management at The Faculty Of who are just amazing people.

We saw Shad premier his new video for the single, “We, Myself, and I” in Toronto during TIFF week and can’t seem to get enough of it!  Check it out for yourself, along with the Fresh Prince parody titled “The Old Prince” below:

If Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were only an appetizer to fill your hunger for comedy and political debate in Washington DC this past weekend, Exit Clov is the soda pop to quench your thirst for the 21st century kids resistance.  Blending the essential ingredients of electro pop and grunge like a best of the 90′s super combo, DC’s Exit Clov has one trait you’ll be hard pressed to ignore… FUN!

We first discovered Exit Clov as a recommendation from DeVotchka’s management and have kept an eye on the band ever since.  Their single, “District Menagerie” beautifully combines electronic drums with twin female vocal harmonies over a simplistic piano melody.  Alternatively, their music video  for “MK Ultra” has more of an old-school punk feel with a touch of Atari filling in the gaps.

For those of us lucky enough to be in NYC this week, the band is playing a FREE show at Rockwood Music Hall (Stage 2) this Friday, November 5th, so be sure to swing by for one of their rare live performances!

#1 vacation destination?  Copenhagen, Denmark.  Why?  Arguably the best music scene in the world.  With bands like Alcoholic Faith Mission and Oh Land making big splashes at CMJ this year, it’s no doubt that Efterklang’s guitarist, Frederik Teige, is next in line.

Now focusing on his solo material, Frederik Teige brings a mystical yet melancholy approach to his horn and banjo driven new single ‘Elevate’.  A testament to the strength in vulnerability, Teige’s ‘Elevate’ shows its anthemic beauty in his brand new video directed by Toronto’s Jaan Silmberg for Pistoltrixx.

We had the privilege of meeting Frederik in Toronto a short while ago through the lovely Leanda Quinquet who not only runs the tasteful Canadian Bloggertronix blog, but also works with both Teige and Lovely Hearts Club’s recently released Tidy Kid.  Talking over a bowl of perogies, we caught Teige just prior to his Blogotheque Takeaway video shoot, which you can also catch below.

With a brand new remix of ‘Elevate’ from 5&1/4 Records’ Vangel (Canadian producer & DJ extraordinaire) and a video to accompany it soon, Frederik Teige is giving us plenty to play with before his full album drops next year!

As Tim Kasher‘s first solo project outside of his beloved other Saddle Creek projects, Cursive and The Good Life, we first heard his new single ‘Cold Love’ from the album ‘The Game Of Monogamy’ a few months back through his bass-playing bandmate and Team Love‘s man behind the scenes, Matt Maginn.

The video for ‘Cold Love’, while admittedly quite cheeky, is in true Kasher form, playing on the reality of every day life.  Kasher is in the midst of quite an extended tour at the moment, so if you happen to be anywhere in North America from now till the end of the year, be sure to check out his invigorating live set!

Just 1 day after the end of an incredible CMJ for Denmark’s Alcoholic Faith Mission, we have the pleasure of releasing their brand new live music video, takeaway style, for ‘Sobriety Up and Left’.

Shot on location at Casa Mezcal, director Austin Conroy of Inother Productions delivers an honest and unique interpretation of this hauntingly beautiful song.

If you missed your chance to see Alcoholic Faith Mission this CMJ, check out Brooklyn Vegan’s coverage here:

Kidstreet.  Yes, it’s that amazing late ’80′s/early ’90′s Canadian TV show based around sibling teams competing against one another to win toys and prizes.  More noteably, however, is the incredible electro-pop kinder surprise band that drew their name from the show.  As a sibling trio themselves, Kidstreet is generously treating the rest of us to a little prize of our own, in the form of their strongly caffeinated song, “X” and the music video for “Penny Candy”.

Kidstreet was originally brought to our attention during one of many blurry nights at NXNE a few years ago.  Since then they have toured and played shows with Girltalk, Thunderheist and Au Revoir Simone, signed with Nettwerk, and are now coming down to NYC to play Paper Garden’s CMJ showcase!  Their live show brings a sugar high on par with a million pixi stix.  Dancing shoes required.
