While Fresno, CA was formed just after the California Gold Rush 150+ years ago, Paper Garden Pioneers have scoured the lands and made a rare and beautiful discovery in the lustrous and enchanting FIERCE CREATURES.

We are very proud to announce the release of Fierce Creature’s new full-length debut album, Catacomb Party, on September 11th. The bands previous EP, I Mostri Feroci, ranked #1 on CMJ’s Unsigned charts, garnered positive attention from the blogosphere (ie. My Old Kentucky Blog, The Wild Honey Pie, yvynyl, Sonicbids/CMJ Spotlight, Glide Magazine, Deli Radio), as well as landing the band a publishing deal with Windish Licensing.

Fierce Creatures first caught our ear with their “Satan Is A Vampire” single, which found itself in regular rotation in our office and into our hearts.  An invitation to play our SXSW Showcase earlier this year gave us the chance to see just how energetic and completely engaging Fierce Creatures are when they take the stage. Fierce Creatures have drawn comparisons to Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, The Shins, and Of Montreal, which stands true to their high energy, unique arrangements and charismatic presence. This is a band who can create a wonderfully cohesive and imaginative album and seamlessly translate it to a live setting.

Fierce Creatures will be playing a slew of West Coast shows around the release including three shows with label-mates Conveyor, a record release show in Fresno and a block party/festival in Oregon. For full tour dates, EPK, and more about Fierce Creatures, visit http://www.papergardenrecords.com/bands/fierce-creatures.

About Fierce Creatures

Fierce Creatures emerged from the scorching Fresno, CA summer of 2009. Abandoning past musical undertakings that never seemed to fit quite right, the band came together to build a fresh identity, free of limitations, focused on the joy of undiluted music. They drew inspiration from the melodic heritage of classic rock and pop, as well as the grandeur and spirit of its inventive successors. By reinterpreting musical conventions and pursuing a song wherever it leads, Fierce Creatures has created something new and altogether enchanting.

Guitar and keys drive the songs, but don’t restrict them. Mandolin, harmonica, and bells accentuate the sound, with chanting choruses and a miscellany of percussion. The product is a cultivated art-pop that fluctuates from delicate anthems to soaring ballads. Fierce Creatures’ self-produced, self-released debut EP, I Mostri Feroci, arrived in July 2010. They will be releasing their first full-length album, Catacomb Party, on August 7th, 2012 via Paper Garden Records.

Fierce Creatures is Mike Adame, Mathr Collom, Tomas Galvan, Joel Melton, Jon Rulloda, Nathaniel Stiers, and Amanda Valdez.

A couple weeks ago, PGR’s Bryan Scary went into the Serious Business studio in SOHO to perform all new songs from the upcoming album, Daffy’s Elixir (April 24, 2012), for BreakThru Radio.  Turns out, it was right in line with BTR’s 100th Episode.  Featuring the track, “Ballroom Kid”, alongside snippets from “Red Baron (Of Arizona)”, this session makes us all-the-more excited to see the band live on April 11th with Little Tybee @ Joe’s Pub and April 24th @ Brooklyn Bowl (The Deli Mag presents).

Alongside this stellar piece from Breakthru Radio, yesterday our friends at I Guess I’m Floating premiered Scary’s first single from Daffy’s Elixir, “Ziegfield Station”.

“This dude, Bryan Scary, is for the days you’re totally fried and looking for a retro kick back, a pop punch in the face, and a musical wet willy in the ear. If you like your milkshakes with a retro pop layering of ELO, fused with the glow of of Montreal and the breakdown of Queen…I’m enjoying everything about this jam..” - I Guess I’m Floating

From the mind of musical genius, Adam Lindquist, comes North Carolina’s APL. APL’s newest album, Ancient Tunes,  comes to us choc-full of uncovered musical gems similar in style to Of Montreal and Dirty Projectors.
Adam Lindquist approached us a couple years ago as a fan of Paper Garden and its roster.  To our pleasant surprise, APL’s music turned out to be some of the most brilliant & complex, yet easily accessible songs we have heard.

APL’s “Reunion Day” is exactly that – a familiarity that evokes a stroll down memory lane through vocal harmonies, percussive drive, and lyrical play.
