The incredible talent of the UK band Tall Ships is something of an open secret among indie-philes this side of the pond. We at The Lovely Hearts Club have been fans since we were first heard their hypnotic, self-titled debut EP last year. Then we featured their label-mates Dad Rocks! earlier this year and were reminded of how much we’ve dug all of the bands we’ve heard on British label Big Scary Monsters. Imagine our delight when Tall Ships offered up their stunning single and video for “Plate Tectonics” to share with all of our readers.
The trio resides in Brighton, where they have developed a size-able fan-base thanks to their lush, complex, hard-to-pin-down sound. While they often draw comparisons to math-rock bands, such as Battles, or post-punk-revival indie bands, such as the Futureheads, Tall Ships’ songs are entirely their own unique brand of rock. The band is gearing up to record a new album in August, which should be available in spring 2012, and we are already eagerly awaiting it. In the meantime, we’re sating our appetites with this great track – and keep an eye out for their new 7-inch, “Hit The Floor/Safe As Houses”.
